F.A.Qs - Frequently Asked Questions
What is 'The Yoga Space'?
The Yoga Space is the only dedicated yoga centre in Leeds. Located in a beautiful, grade II listed building (formerly a Baptist Chapel) along the main Meanwood Road, it offers a warm, light, clean and uncluttered space and a focused, nurturing environment for the practice of yoga at all levels, from complete beginners to those with many years experience.
As well as a wide range of yoga classes in both daytime and evening, The Yoga Space offers complementary activities such as Thai massage (and other massage therapies) and creative arts therapy. Run by Nichi Green, a committed astanga practitioner and professional yoga teacher with many years teaching experience, The Yoga Space, as the name suggests, offers space for everyone to discover the benefits and joys of yoga.

I want to start Astanga - can I just turn up for a beginners class?
You need to book your first class and if you have never done yoga before it is advised you join a level 1 class on a Monday evening. Here you can pick up the basics at a slower pace with other beginners and move onto level 2 when you are ready. Occasionally we run beginners workshops so look out for those.
If I buy a block of classes can I use my card on any class?
Yes - you can use your card with any class apart from the beginner's course, Pilates and dance exercise. Daytime cards can be used on evening and weekend classes but you will have to pay a £1.50 top up fee.
I'm pregnant, can I start yoga?
From 14 weeks you can join the pregnancy class. It is not advisable to start Astanga if you have not done it before. Gentle flow and Yoga Flow may be suitable if you have a regular practice but you will need to speak to us first.
I am going on holiday can you extend my card?
No - all block bookings expire within 3 months or 2 months. We only extend cards for medical reasons.
What equipment do I need?
We provide mats and props such as blocks. For hygiene reasons and to help you practise at home, you may wish to buy your own mat - we can sell you one. Wear loose clothing, be prepared to work in bare feet, and bring some warm clothes for relaxing.
I want to do a lot of yoga this month. Can I up my membership to full this month only?
Yes that's fine. Just let us know and pay the extra when you come to your next class.
Can you give me directions to the Centre? What about parking?
From Leeds centre, by car: drive up Woodhouse Lane, past the university; keep going until you reach Hyde Park corner, then turn right at the lights. This is Woodhouse Street... follow this down the hill and you will come to Meanwood Road at the bottom. Turn left. Drive on past the Jet garage, and past a full row of Victorian terraces on your right.
The Yoga Space is the red-brick, detached Chapel building immediately after these on the right hand side. Turn right immediately after the building and follow the road round to the back. There is ample parking alongside what now becomes the left-hand side of the building.
To get to us by bus: catch the number 51 or 51A, outside Tiger Tiger and The Light. The Yoga Space is on the right-hand side of Meanwood Road, opposite the 'Arc' car-wash on your left.
