Manju Pattabhi Jois
Ashtanga Yoga Week
September 13th to 16th 2010
At
The Yoga Space
Leeds

Manju Jois, Ashtanga Yoga guru of Mysore, South India, is the oldest son of Sri K. Pattabhi Jois. At the age of 7, Manju was awakened early each day by his father to begin lessons that would forever change the course of his life and the lives of those who would study with him in the years to come. He began teaching at the age of 15 with his father and has taught continuously for the last 46 years. After high school, Manju traveled all over India to give yoga demonstrations and teach Ashtanga Yoga. He decided not to become a Professor of Yoga at Benares HinduUniversity because he wanted to continue to travel and teach the Ashtanga tradition. During that time he also went to Pondicherry and demonstrated and taught yoga at the Geeta Ananda Ashram. Two American yoga students, David Williams and Norman Allen, saw Manju¹s demonstration. Williams, extremely impressed by Manju¹s demonstration and knowledge, approached Manju and asked who his guru was. Manju sent Williams to is father/guru. The two westerners studied with Sri K. Pattabhi Jois for several months. After returning to Encinitas, California, Williams invited Manju and Pattabhi Jois to the USA in 1975. This was the first time that Ashtanga yoga was brought to the west.
Manju Jois is dedicated to his mission of teaching in the ancient style of yoga. He is also introducing pranayama and vedic chanting. His intention is to teach in the way of the Ancient tradition and bring the many benefits of Ashtanga yoga to his students.

Traditional Thai Massage is a unique body therapy, which incorporates the movements of Hatha Yoga and the energetic patterns of Acupressure to create a complete healing form. There are over 130 movements that can be used in this fascinating massage. Gentle rocking and rhythmic compressions look and feel like poetry in motion. The deep stretches realign the skeletal system and tone the internal organs. Its therapeutic aspects are beneficial for all types and ages. No previous experience is required. The course is suitable for those new to massage as well as for practitioners of other massage forms who wish to expand their repertoire, and is structured especially for those who would like to learn to practitioner level. It is particularly valuable for yoga teachers who use adjusting in their teaching.
